Hey lovelies, welcome back to my weekly check-in. I hope you’ve all had a good half-term and had a well-earned break from homeschooling. I wish I could say ours was relaxing but if I’m being honest I don’t feel like I’ve had a break but there we go.

As I touched on in Wednesdays post about me struggling with my mental health at the moment, the housework hasn’t been done up to my normal standard for a while with everything in life going on so Monday I spent the whole day deep cleaning the house, well most of the house. Which felt amazing and like a weight had been lifted even though I didn’t get round to bleaching the bathroom (I clean it almost daily but I like to bleach the bath/sink and floors every couple of weeks), pulling the furniture out in the living room to deep clean in there or cleaning the windows. I was proud of myself and how good the house looked.

After spending all day cleaning Monday I took a day out to spend some time with baby bear playing and just relaxing. Which was amazing to be honest, just spending time with him without battling to get school work done.

So come Wednesday I decided to pull the end of the wallpaper off the landing and hallway ready to plaster this weekend. I should have known it wasn’t going to be straightforward from previous experience in our house with every other room but… As always as I was removing wallpaper the plaster was either coming off with the paper (quick note we can peel all the wallpaper off with just our hands not heat, water, or tools). And if I was lucky enough for it not to come off with the paper it was blown anyway so needed scrapping off. I shared some photos over on my #yearofphotos post on Instagram of a patch of the wall. So of course, Tuesday I only got upstairs done before calling it a day and regretting my decision to trash my hallway a day after I had cleaned it all.

Thursday I tackled the hallway which was so much easier the walls are pretty good there so it was just a case of removing the wallpaper. Easy right, well yes but I couldn’t stop myself from removing more of the plaster that needed to come off the stairs. It is pretty satisfying to remove the plaster at the time as it is so easy to take off but ohh my it makes such a mess. So my nice clean house is no more and very short-lived. Why do I do this to myself.

The bits finally arrived for my bridesmaid proposals Wednesday and I had an order to make for someone so Friday was a Cricut day and it was heavenly. I was in my element creating. I’m so happy with how everything turned out but as usual, you will have to wait to see what I’ve been up to. Which if you ask me was a perfect way to end our half-term.

half-term

And just like that, we were back at the weekend and our half-term was over…

After not leaving the house all week (other than the food shop which I do alone) we decided to go for a family walk, which turned out to be a big mistake as it was so busy and no one seemed to keep their distance so we just come home. As rubbish as it was, it was good to leave the house and get some fresh air. Then we had our normal Saturday movie night with dinner on the sofa which was a perfect end to the day.

I was kind of hoping the relaxed feel would continue into today if I’m being honest. I know the hallway needs doing but I just hate the mess. Well, Daddy bear didn’t get this memo and decided to use today and his free time to remove some more of the plaster on the stairs ready to do a few coats of PVA ready to plaster a few nights during the week. Well, this turned into removing the hallway ceiling which has now lead to agreeing to build our porch as well before replacing the ceiling as we have access to the wiring for the light and security camera to be fitted out there. I know it will all be worth it and these are all things we want but I HATE THE CONSTANT MESS AND DUST. It drives me insane. But I’m trying to just keep reminding myself it will all be worth it and it will look amazing in the end. I suppose the only good thing with being in lockdown is no one can come over and see the state of the house at the moment. Silver linings and all that.

Anyway, that is how our half-term has been, let me know what you have been up to in the comments. I hope you all have a good week ahead and are ready for being back at homeschooling tomorrow. Let’s hope for some good news from good old Boris tomorrow hey. Thank you for reading and supporting me as always love you all and see you Wednesday x
